A 52-year-old man from Greater Manchester, England, called the police on Monday, February 16, 2024, to report himself as a drunk driver. He told the emergency dispatcher that he had a rough weekend and stole a van from outside a pub. He also said that he was driving drunk and didn’t know what he was doing or where he was going.
The police traced his location and found him in a black van on the side of the road in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire. They arrested him after he failed a breath test that showed he was three times over the legal limit for alcohol.
He was charged with drunken driving and appeared in court on Thursday, February 29. The police shared his story on Facebook to highlight the danger of impaired driving and the unusual nature of his call. The man was cooperative and remorseful, and hoped that the court would show some mercy on him.
