Falling Rose

A beautiful rose with satiny petals captures every passing eye. But what happens when it begins to wilt? This morning, as I passed a rose bush, I couldn’t help but compare myself to it. I saw all the stages of life within that bush. From the tight green bud with just a hint of petal peeking through, to the rose that dangles dry and ready to fall to the ground, each stage of the rose’s existence is beautiful in its own way.

So, why is it that women often struggle to accept the different stages in our lives? Aren’t each of these stages beautiful and purposeful in their own right? When I stand in front of the mirror and witness some of my petals falling and becoming withered, I sometimes criticize myself. But why? Why should I only see the flaws instead of the next stage of beauty? Society has ingrained in women the idea that their value is solely based on their outward appearance. From Botox to plastic surgery, from starving for the perfect body – it’s no wonder women are so hard on themselves.

Today, when I stand in front of that mirror and gaze at my falling petals, I am determined to embrace each stage and find the beauty within. I will see all the beauty, not just the flaws. Ladies, let’s be like the rose that blooms so magnificently that when it withers, they pick up the petals and press them to always remember its true beauty, that which resides within our hearts.”
